What doth life?
That's the spice!

Unenthused Yay

Never have I ever been so tepid about trying a film I've never shot before: The Kentmere 400. I somehow came to own 8 rolls of the stuff when I wandered into a camera gear closing out warehouse sale extravaganza. The prices were too low to not buy. It's film! It's around $20 for the whole lot! That's like $2.50 per roll! Like a blood thirsty hipster vulture, I got all of them despite the gut feeling of not just, eww it's black and white, but also the lukewarm average review from a few friends: "It's all right I guess," was the average consensus.

After scanning just one roll, I'm now getting the full picture of the super meh testimonials. It's mid.

Admittedly, I'm not a black and white kind of person. I never knew the differences between Tri-X or HP5 or any of the like. I don't shoot nor care for any of it. But there's just something so quintessentially missing from this roll that I can't actually tell if I shot it all super unenthusiastically or if it was truly just a mid stock that made everything look boring.

This is by no means a technical review of the film. All I have to say about this stock is that it looks painfully mediocre to my eyes and I have 2 more rolls of it to scan with equal lack of enthusiasm.

I don't quite remember which camera I used, but my best guess is a borrowed Voigtlander Bessa R3A with a 35mm lens that came with a stern warning of bodily harm if I were to lose or damage it. In hindsight, I probably should have stuck a different film in there.
