The Fair

Have you ever held a camera so uncomfortable and the UI so bad that you don't really remember the name of it, but the anxious uncertainty of, "Is this taking a photo or not?!" Persisted until the roll was developed? Well I have a batch of scans here that was taken on such an ergonomic nightmare. It was a borrowed piece of garbage that my friend was quite fond of. While shooting it, the shot number advanced sporadically. I didn't know if I was on my 12th shot or 21st shot or was hopelessly spinning on one singular frame for 36 shots.

Sometimes expecting nothing yields the best surprise. I thought I had shot a blank roll when the film didn't feel like it was advancing, yet reached no end by what I counted in my head at 38 frames. While it never reached a definitive end of roll, I rewound it and threw that canister deep into the fridge for a long time.

Was I surprised there were images? Yes. Was I surprised they were kinda cute? Hell yes. While I don't remember taking some of these shots, especially the ones with strangers staring straight down the barrel, I remember what a pain in the ass this camera was, and how summer sunsets at the fair hit just right.

Would I go to this fair or ever use this camera again? That's a no. The food was expensive yet mid, the lines were too long, the unreliability was biting.

While scanning, CD asked if I knew any of these people in the shots. I don't, and the funny thing is, there are barely any frames of people I do know. And these are the summer memories of 2022.
